THE TOTALLY AWESOME FISHING SHOW – LATEST NEWS
It’s finally happened!! Mike “Got the skunk out of the boat” yesterday with his best ever day’s fly fishing for Trout. Lots of Rainbows to a good size, and even his first ever Brown trout on a fly. We won’t say how many trout he got but he tripled my own catch (my excuse I was doing all the filming). Every single trout came to just one fly. Sid Knight’s White Chomper with a Green Shellback, about size 10. A fly we had good success with at Frensham Trout Fishery in Surrey (our last trout film up on YouTube), so it seems a great pattern to use in the spring. We saw anglers at both venues who knew our Totally Awesome trout fishing films, so look out for the next film on flyfishing. Got some great tips in it. Yesterday’s venue was at Hampshire’s clearwater venue of Church Paddock Fishery, just outside Winchester, and the Rainbows, Browns and Damerham Blue trout were all in great fighting condition.
On the subject of game fishing just had an email from Paul Harris, Ireland’s top shore fishing guide on the Beara peninsula. Apparently there has been a massive escape of Salmon from one of the commercial Salmon farms. 230,000 of the critturs to be honest, and they all escaped into …..Bantry Bay ….right where Paul operates from. So next time you go spinning for Bass or Pollack over there, better be prepared for a large bar of silver to hang on the end. Could be some exciting times on the Beara this summer. Watch this space.
With Mike off from school teaching we are cranking the films out, and aim to cover coarse, sea and game. Big film going up this Friday, 4th April 7pm. Instructional and tips that will have your brain working overtime. Don’t miss it. I always say you just need that one vital tip that you can apply to your own fishing, but it could be the tip that gets you the fish.
We are getting emailed more and more by fishermen thanking us for tips they have picked up, and for the new “P.B’s” they have managed to land. That’s what we like to hear. Success stories, as it makes all our hard work worthwhile. And older anglers are getting back into the sport. Seems we have renewed their enthusiasm. One of the anglers got back into boat fishing off Kent and reeled in a load of Thornback Rays to 14lbs.What a way to get back into the sport. Big baits were the key.
Apparently the Porbeagle sharks are not about off North Devon yet as one boat has thrown in a few blank sessions. We certainly won’t be doing anything there yet, as it’s always an expensive risk to burn all that fuel and waste a load of time on blank trips. Better to wait until the waters warm up, with the end of June bringing the most numbers. The Blue sharks will also be about in June, so book your charter boat trips for the bigger spring tides if you want success. Best months will be July and August.
Now here’s something for you fly fishermen to kick around. We are going to offer, in conjunction with Church Paddock Trout Fishery, a superb prize day out with The Totally Awesome Fishing Show, with an exclusive corporate type booking where you get to fish the lake with other competition winners. Breakfast included, lunch included. Flycasting tuition included – All free!. We’re even trying to rustle up a few tackle prizes. You get to appear in the film, and both of us will be there. It will be next Wednesday, April 9th, it will be a midweek exclusive booking. Just eight anglers will win, and have the chance of a free day fishing at a good trout venue. You MUST watch our Totally Awesome Fishing Show on Facebook for details of the comp. It will be simple. A guess the fish weight so anyone can win. If under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult. You will be able to take away two fish each, or if you are really “on fire” with your fishing, you can buy any others on a per lb basis. It’s a great chance to get either a Rainbow, Brown, or Damerham Blue trout.
And we would like to thank “Louis” our very own secret agent, who tipped us off that yet another site had stolen our films and put them up without permission. YouTube wiped that account straight away, so anyone thinking of copying remember Louis is on patrol. You can run…but you can’t hide!! Keep watching The Totally Awesome Fishing Show! The only one to watch.
As Graeme mentioned in his news section, yesterday was an absolute red-letter day for me! The weather was great, conditions were spot on for fly fishing so with Church Paddock set as the venue we aimed to get yet another Totally Awesome Fishing episode filmed for you. After a bit of a nightmare breaking Dad’s fly rod in the last fly fishing episode that we did, I was very careful to not have a repeat this time round! In fact Dad gave me his even more expensive fly rod to use (mental I know!) but it made a big difference, that along with some new line made casting so much smoother. I am still getting used to the casting but I think I have got the feel of it now. But casting was not on my agenda, I was “in the zone” as they say. There is something special about stalking Trout. Picking out individual fish and trying to find the right retrieve speed, technique and depth, makes it challenging and enjoyable. I lost 5 fish in a row before I even caught anything! I put it down to not putting enough pressure on the rod and the Trout spitting the hook out as they got some slack line. Nevertheless I soon changed my technique and got some fish. It was a great day out that I won’t be forgetting!
Just a few days before the Trout fishing Dad and I went to film our carp guru Tommy Flower down at Hawkhurst Fish Farm in Kent. It was another fine day and judging by the fact that the video is 50 minutes long it is packed full of Tommy’s best carp fishing tips for spring. Keep an eye out for it on the show, it will be nothing less than AWESOME!
If you are wanting to get in on the fly fishing morning with Graeme and myself next Wednesday 9th April then head on over to this link: TAFISHING FACEBOOK and “Like” our page. Then keep an eye out for when we post the picture of the Trout and see if you can guess the weight!
