THE TOTALLY AWESOME FISHING SHOW – LATEST NEWS
Here’s yet another Totally Awesome exclusive for you…I have just got back from driving all the way to fish Haslar pier in Gosport, targeting mini species on hooks that are normally used in freshwater. Following a short film there, I drove all the way back “camp”, unloaded the tackle, packed the car with cameras, lifejacket and the latest in sounder survey gear for a straight turnaround recording session at world famous trout water, Dever Springs in Hampshire. Once there I spent an hour and a half rowing….yes, rowing round and round the large lake to gather data for a system called Insight Genesis, Using my portable Lowrance Elite-4 sdi unit which converts echo sounder recordings into hard map data that you can play with on the computer at home. My hard work paid off as the recordings show what looks like two dark blue areas where deeper, and colder spring water comes into the lake, and both areas are close to banks where the fly fishermen can reach.
It’s amazing, the dark blue areas could just be the place where the big Brown trout lie in the summer, as they always go for the colder water. And of course the double figure rainbows that Dever are so famous for will also find a bit of extra comfort in these areas during high summer temperatures. Niall and Stuart have both been hard at work doing weed cutting on both lakes, so it was an ideal opportunity to get out and see where some of the contours lay. If you are a fly fisherman, this is invaluable information.
The Totally Awesome Fishing Show have featured tips on fly fishing at Dever Springs several times, but the news that the fishery has an enormous Brown trout of over 20lbs ready to be stocked later in the year means we hope to be back to see the leviathan go in. I have been flat out driving around gathering the very best in news stories for you, we are finally backed up enough to keep our upload of TWO FILMS A WEEK throughout July, and maybe even August.
With Mike finishing teaching in the next day or so we aim to crank those trips out plus Wayne Comben has almost got his 17-footer “Taryn” ship shape and ready for another record Isle of Wight Thresher shark, and Tommy Flower, our carp guru has been cracking out big fish again, with a personal best UK catfish that actually bottomed out his scales. We reckon its well 70lbs, having seen the pictures. Don’t forget to look out for our “DOUBLE LOAD” of films, one on Friday at 7pm, then again on Monday at 7pm. And please, if you want a Polo shirt,T-shirt,or shark DVD, let us know. Our stocks are getting really low with a flurry of interest since we passed an incredible 42,000 subscribers. Never underestimate the power of our “AWESOME ARMY !! Good fishing out there……………..
FINALLY the school holidays have arrived, which means no more teaching for a month and a half! Happy days. I have lots planned this summer, the first being a days sea fishing with Dad tomorrow afternoon to try and catch my first Smoothound from the shore. Then next week I plan to go Barbel fishing on the River Severn (weather permitting). Following that I am off to Gran Canaria for a week with Emmy (where I do plan to do a bit of fishing, just a bit, she won’t notice the reels in the suitcase).
I also have big plans to expand the website more over the next few months. We have double the videos coming out on YouTube for the next month, one on Friday at 7pm (our main episode) and then another episode on Mondays at 9pm. We have had an influx of people buying our Ultimate Guide to Blue Shark DVD, it seems to be the most popular DVD we have. I also have plans to fish with Tommy again and try for some BIG CARP! I have only fished with Tommy a few times and already I have caught my P.B at 20lb 12oz. I always look forward to fishing with Tommy as he isn’t afraid to try something new and boy does he know how to find the fish. Stay tuned to next weeks E-News where hopefully we will have some fishy pics to show you 🙂
