Well I can’t exactly say that my half term fishing has been brilliant… In fact it’s probably been the toughest fishing I’ve had! My target has been predator fishing over the past week. During the first half of the week myself and Graeme focused on the Perch fishing. Having looked at the weather forecast the night before, we weren’t exactly expecting a red letter day. However, we didn’t expect it to be THAT BAD! All we managed was I think two Perch each. The fish just weren’t switched on. We downsized our hookbaits and even tried red maggots, but we still struggled! I think it was the drop in temperatures we had at the beginning of the week that put the fish off feeding. To top things off, an hour into our session and the heavens opened with the finest of the British rain dampening our spirits. We decided to call it a day and come back to the Perch in a few weeks. We then noticed a bit of warmer weather coming in towards the end of the week, so we focused our efforts on some lure fishing for Pike. Initially, this seemed like a great idea. Conditions looked good, no rain was forecasted (good for the filming) and after our Perch session we thought we couldn’t do any worse. Well it turned out we could… after another couple of hours blanking, we were about to call it a day before we noticed a carp angler with a monster of a fish on his unhooking mat. We went over to give him a hand in taking pictures and decided to get some footage of it on the camera’s. It truly was a stunning common carp and over 30lbs! To say we were jealous was an understatement…

Action Pike 10″ Fire Tiger !

On the final day of fishing we went for one more Pike lure fishing session. This time the conditions WERE right. I was testing out the Action Pike 10″ swimbait from FishAction in the Fire Tiger colour and it was AWESOME! I had a number of takes and landed a small Pike with bright vivid markings. On the second session I hooked another two Pike that tail-walked across the lake and spat the hooks out! Awesome to see, but not so awesome when you realise you lost the fish. Graeme did manage to get some underwater footage of the Pike which came out ok.

Now the fishing might have to be put on the back burner for a while… I’m moving into a new house at the end of the week which means most of my time (and Dad’s!) will be prioritised on this. We also have The Big One fishing tackle show coming in the next month or so. On top of that I have a lot of teaching work coming up. But don’t worry, I will always find time to edit the weekly TAFishing videos! I also did a few more Bushcraft videos for Totally Awesome Outdoors. Check them out below.
